Job Description
Proton, founded by CERN scientists, builds encrypted services like Proton Mail and Proton VPN to protect user privacy. As a Senior Systems & Reliability Engineer on the VPN Infrastructure team, you will help maintain the robust systems that keep users connected in restrictive environments. You will work with a highly skilled, distributed team to design and optimize infrastructure that prioritizes security and reliability.
Your tasks
- Oversee and optimize the global network of thousands of servers.
- Design and implement automation systems to ensure high uptime across the infrastructure.
- Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot complex technical challenges in various network environments.
- Develop and enhance monitoring and alerting systems for real-time visibility.
- Engineer solutions to improve connectivity, stability, performance, and resilience in adversarial network conditions.
Your profile
- Expert knowledge of Debian/Linux operating system internals, including NFtables, networking stack, and kernel tuning.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using tools like Ansible.
- Proficiency in Python for developing automation tools and operational scripts.
- Hands-on experience with observability tools such as VictoriaMetrics and Grafana.
- Understanding of security principles and best practices for infrastructure.
- Bonus: Experience with VPN protocols (OpenVPN, WireGuard), cryptography concepts, and high-availability systems.
