Job Description

Novartis in Basel is recruiting for a three-year postdoctoral fellowship within the AI & Innovation team of Oncology Data Science. The program is designed for early-career scientists who want to push the boundaries of biomedical research through AI and digital pathology. Applications are due by September 24, 2026, with a start date of November 1, 2026.

• Develop and apply AI approaches to extract clinically and biologically meaningful insights from digital pathology imaging datasets, including H&E, IHC, multiplex immunofluorescence, and spatial transcriptomics.
• Work with foundational models, including pre-trained, self-supervised, multi-purpose, and multi-modal models to advance generative AI applications in drug discovery.
• Collaborate with pathologists, translational scientists, and drug discovery teams to interpret image-derived biomarkers and spatial patterns in the tumor microenvironment.
• Contribute to scientific publications and present results at internal and external conferences.

• PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant scientific discipline, completed before the fellowship start date (graduated in 2026).
• Demonstrated record of scientific achievement through publications, presentations, or patents.
• Experience analyzing imaging data such as H&E, IHC, multiplex IF, or spatial transcriptomics.
• Experience in at least one area: generative AI, digital pathology foundation models, geometric deep learning, or multi-modal learning.
• Strong programming skills and proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Eligibility to work in Switzerland.

• Guidance from accomplished scientific leaders and subject matter experts.
• Access to advanced technologies, platforms, and research capabilities.
• A global and diverse community of postdoctoral fellows with dedicated career-development programming.
• A Postdoc Practicum offering personalized experiential learning to explore new scientific domains.
• Opportunities to publish in leading journals and build an international scientific network.
